Top Seven Most Common Windows Registry Errors
By Carl Craane

The Windows operating system performance is tied closely to the registry. In order for Windows to perform at its optimal level the registry should be kept clear of errors. These registry errors can lead to crashes and poor performance of your computer. Every time software is installed or removed there is an accumulation of entries of which some are unnecessary. The creation of malicious entries, duplicate keys, and hard reboot of your computer are some of the top causes of Windows registry errors.

Keeping your computer running at its optimal requires regular maintenance checks of the Windows registry. Registry cleaners are an invaluable tools in maintaining your computer free of errors and help to insure your systems continued performance.

Top Seven List:

1. Improper Shutdown: Just before a computer shuts down it checks the system memory and writes any changes to the system registry. This is the way it should work; but when your system crashes, experiences a power failure or is shut down improperly then this can lead to registry damage by leaving corrupted entries in the system memory.

2. Holes in the Registry: Whenever entries in the registry are removed this will leave a void and with regular use many holes fill the registry and fragment it. This will make your computer system slow down to a crawl and undermine the stability of your registry.

3. Malware: Entries by Malware like Spyware, Trojans, and Adware are regularly placing entries in the registry. These will lead to many system errors and in time can severely damage the registry and your computers performance.

4. Software: As you install software the installation file will place embedded keys in the registry to save information about the software applications on your computer. This is normal but when a Spyware program discovers these embedded keys it will target them and try to make non-removable entries to your registry. As you install and remove software from your system these embedded keys will continue to multiply and make your registry grow in size.

5. Orphan Keys: Sometimes after an application is removed some keys maybe left behind in the registry. When the software was originally installed the keys where created but when the software was uninstalled some keys may not of been removed. This will create instability in your registry.

6. Duplicate Keys: Have you ever re-installed or upgraded your software? In this instance keys are entered in the registry without removing previous ones. This will cause your registry to swell and become unstable.

7. Old Entries: The registry records everything that is done to your system and overtime these entries build up and can eventually lead to problems. In a perfect world these entries would be removed after they were used. In most cases these entries remain in the registry and can bog down and slow your system down to the speed of snail.
